454 Mag To 502?
Well, its looking like Im going to have to bite the bullet and toss a new motor in the Outlaw. It currently has a stock 454 mag carb. Since I have to put a long block in it, I was thinking of maybe going to a 502 since the money difference is fairly close. I need some opinions on what to do? Benefits, negatives, problems with the switch? Ive also heard that I may need to switch the gear ratio in the outdrive to move to a 502. Is there a way to find out what ratio I have now, and what I would have to switch to? Let me know your opinions. Thanks guys.

You Should Have No Problems With The Switch At All. There Should Be A Sticker On The Out Drive That Says The Ratio. I Am Willing To Bet That It Is 1.50 If It Is A Bravo 1.
What Generation 454 Do You Have? If It Is A Mark Iv Block And You Use A Gen V Or Vi Block You Will Need To Get A New Fly Wheel And Bell Housing And Oil Cooler Adapter.
Good Luck.

you don't have to do anything, except bolt it in. Drive ratio should be on a sticker on the drive. Probably a 1.5. With the added HP of the 502 you may need to go up in prop pitch, but thats it. Internals of both motors are excellent high performance GM parts. Go with the 502, gain from 365 HP on your 454 to 415 HP if its an efi 502.

Re: 454 Mag To 502?
Thanks for the input guys. Im not 100% sure what the full scenario is on my motor yet, Im just trying to get ideas of what could be done as easy as possible. The 502 or building mine to a 496 does sound appealing though
