Re: Trailer winch strap failure !
I like a cable. I had a strap get cut fromt he boat bouncing up and down. The bad part was, I was headed up the Sunshine Skyway when it came broke. I made it to the other side, thank goodness I had some log chain and a come along in my truck.

I try not to let the cable get to old so it want break.Maybe not never but of 16 years knock on wood.I don't like the strapsbecause of the sun gets to that exposed part.

I have always used 3/8 spectra on my winches.10,ooo lb test and does not stretch so if it were to ever break it would simply fall not whip.Cable and straps scare the living hell out of me when it comes time to crank a boat up on trailer during low tide and engine failure. Also you can reverse the line or trim it back and reattache your hook to keep it fresh.Works great with a pulleye and a hook on the boweye to get a 2 to 1 advantage when you really need some pulling power .

I clamp a towel near the bow hook on the winch cable in the
event of a cable failure it should slow the cable recoil.
I use a electric winch.
