Just a little real life experience:
Daytona race I was racing a 36 skater with HP 500's, and lapped a 36 cigarette with hp 500's the water was 8 to 10fts
Ask trace martin he was the throttle man in the cig.
Case closed.

I own a V..want a cat...but cats are superior in every way, especially in the rough stuff and doing it way faster than any V could imagine. They also land softer, track better, dock better in a conventional set up..they only thing they cant do..is give you a big cabin..and they cost a hell of a lot more to insure.

8' to 10' waves? Wave height is the vertical distance from the top of the crest to the bottom of the trough. Let's see the video of that race.

I think there are very few people (like John Tomlinson) that can run a cat with the expertise to be able to run the boat hard in rough water
Mark kowalski
Steve Curtis
Reggie Fountain III
Billy Moore
Rich Wyatt
Herb Stotler
Bob Teague
Gary Balllough
Mike Standcombe
Joey Gratton
Jay Mueller
Just a few more off the top of my head who will crush Vees in Rough water throttling a cat

As an owner of a 35 foot vee, there is no question of the
superiority of cats.
In fact, when I encounter people whose goal is to go over
100mph I tell them to just get a cat, forget the vee.
So why am I in a vee?
There is one downside to cats: I would never, ever own
a cat without at least #6 drives. Bravos are a joke on cats.
For that and other reasons cats cost nearly double the
same size vee, but will go lots faster. I can't afford a cat.
In fact, as far as I'm concerned, my 35 foot 8500 pound vee with twin 575SCi's and XR drives is the limit for reliable Bravo usage. Any more power, size, weight, or if you have a cat, forget Bravos.

But for the record and keep the competition a bit friendly..
Cats are faster.. period. "V" 's will handle "Rough" water better... period. Let's clearify. "rough" not chops.. .. Rough = 6'+ the problem is that you hardly ever see races in 6+... and we also should put size to size. a 35' "V" would be better in "high seas" then 35' a cat. A 45' cat and a 45' "V"?? I don't know.. A cat will be better.. faster in 3-4's. to many thinks that a chop is = to high seas..
The real question...what would any one rather have in a serious storm ?? or How would a 21' cat be in 3-4's and compared to a 21' "V". To many variables IMHO.
To each his own.. A boat is a boat, and I like them all.

It really was that rough there in 2003. I think that is the year he is talking about. There are many videos of that race. I believe that is when Jack S. passed away from an apparent rough water incident in a Vee.
