Re: Whats better in the rough Cat or Vee?
I'll bite and risk getting flamed.... depends what ype of waters and speeds you want to run. I had 3 yrs in a 25 Daytona, 3 yrs in a 28 Pantera and now have a couple months in my 30' Daytona (Sorry T2 for leaning west)- so my perspective is with smaller perf boats
I boat inland lakes, but grand and Loto can get pretty snotty, also went to Destin last yr for a little fun in the Gulf (Pantera). The lake I live on is too mild to matter.
If the water is smooth enough to go 50+ I like the cats waay better. I'm sure some bigger/ deeper /better cats (Than my centerpod west coast stuff) have a higher threshold of how much slop it takes to slow you down. But if the slop is such that you're going to run 30-50, I'd much rather be in the Pantera as the cat is out of it's elements at that speed. The Pantera is a flat out blast in the slower slop

Bob Russell and Mike Fiore outran everyone (even supercats) in a rough water race a few years ago in Northern California with their 42 V

Re: Whats better in the rough Cat or Vee?
Big Difference.
In Offshore racing that train left the station long ago......
Power for power the cats have won in rough or calm water...since the mid 80's.
Even the Miami- New York race was won by a cat.
The fact that a 42+ foot vee bottom with 2500+ hp can beat a 36 foot cat (stretched to 38) with 1100 hp means very little.
525 hp's versus 525 hp's
or
twin 1400's
in equal sized boats..... say 36 foot cat against 35 Vee
or 46 foot cat against 46 foot vee
Give me the cat...up to small craft warnings
After that
let's make it 30 foot cat against 30 foot vee
and I'll take the Shadow Cat.

Was that a race...or a Poker Run?
