It's alot bigger there than it is here. It seems like a great time and organization. The race today was pushed back to a later strating time to let the big water die down a bit. But now it seems like it was canceled?

P1 TIME TRIAL FOR THE PUBLIC
High seas today forced the cancellation of the second leg of the Powerboat P1 Maltese Grand Prix of the Sea. The conditions outside of Valletta Harbour were considered dangerous enough not to put teams and safety crews at risk. With several teams still nursing wounds to boats and bodies after yesterday's first leg, the decision, on safety grounds, was considered the most appropriate course of action
To avoid public disappointment the organisers and local authorities have introduced a time trial starting at 5pm, with boats mustering at the entrance and racing into this stunning harbour against the clock.

Business as usual as 2006 Champions OSG Donzi win in Malta
Grand Harbour, Valletta, Malta: OSG, the Italian boat of Giancarlo
Cangiano and Giovanni Carpitella, won the opening Grand Prix of the
Powerboat P1 World Championship in Malta in a race that will long be
remembered for high seas and unforgiving race conditions. Normally
contested over two legs, dangerous sea conditions forced the cancellationof today's race and yesterdays first round results stand, with
Wettpunkt.com in second and Kiton in third.
Although the Italian craft of Fainplast had crossed the line first in the
Evolution Class, a protest was lodged and subsequently upheld that the
Metamarine boat had missed a course buoy during the race. It resulted in disqualification.
In SuperSport, the result was much more decisive after an emphatic Roundthe Island performance by the British husband and wife team of MikeShelton and Jackie Hunt, despite waves of over 5metres high. For many ofthe highly experienced seafaring racers, these were the worst conditionsever experienced, making the clear-cut win in Extremeboat, powered byMercury Engines, even more impressive.
It was not without some relief to the battered and bruised boats and
bodies that today's event was cancelled. Malta loves its P1 and the crowdsrespond in their tens of thousands. However, any initial disappointment for the large crowds was short lived when the organisers, in closeco-operation with the Maltese Armed Forces and Civil Protection, created atime trial event within the stunning 'Fortress of the Mediterranean' GrandHarbour, Valletta. This impromptu initiative, though not counting towardsthe Championship, was won by ExtremeBoat in SuperSport and in Evolution by the Outerlimits Powerboats team. The high speeds generated across thewaters of the harbour by the all-American outfit will serve as a timely reminder, if one was needed, that Joe Sgro and Mike Fiore are not in Europe just to make up the numbers.

If we took all the "Offshore" boat builders in America, who really take their reputations seriously and asked them to build a boat that they would race against other builders, in real offshore conditions.
Then gave them a year to get their act together, how many would actually do it on a world stage for all to see? Outer Limits, Fountain, Cigarette, Chief, Apache, Donzi, Pantera, any others??
Well, look no further folks......we have coming up in June 2008....just a year away, a real offshore race that the whole world will be watching......the 1,600 mile Round Britain Race.
Enough talk, let's see the real players come out.

Nice job Mike & Joe !
It's got to be great to come away with a win the 1st weekend of the season!
Competition there looks fierce with so little time separation.
