I got the same thing on a prowler for sale on ebay. I emailed him back and said I was having IRS problems and would need to send CASH in a box, please call me for details. I than gave him the local FBI office phone number. Never got another email from him.

I ran across this exact same scam back in 2003 when I was looking to buy a ski.

Had a similar scam (except he was purchasing) when I was selling my wifes Corvette. Had it listed on Autotrader. I strung this guy out for about 3 weeks, documented all the email correspondence. Went so far as to actually send me a check drawn on an out of state bank, said to deposit it and send the balance to a shipper who would pick up the car. Took all the emails, and the check to my bank and they turned it all over to the feds. It's hard to imagine but there are people who actually fall for this stuff.
