Does anyone know the Charlyn part # for the hydraulic helm required for a single cylinder Marine Machine steering set up? Everyone (cpperformance, wpm, etc) seem to have only there own part #s and are not sharing the charlyn #. I have a guy wanting to sell me a helm, but I want to be sure it is the correct size first.
....I want to prevent a "bad experience !.

Try this. http://www.eatonhydraulics.com/cds/products.htm
I have been looking at the series 2 or the Flex 4.
I think with the single cylinder you only need about 60cc volume. The more volume the helm has the easier it is to turn the wheel.

Here is the Char-lyn Steering Control Unit (helm) that I used on a Marine Machine single cyl. setup. ( 3-series 211-1001 )4.5 cu. displacement per revolution.

Check out Northerntool.com
Last winter I used their 201652-c159 model helm. Rated at 100 cu.cm . The 80 cu.cm would have worked but needed to be back ordered. The price in last years catalog is $270. They also have a steering column for $45.
Just be sure you buy an open center system. I bought one from a guy on the board last winter it was a closed center and didn't work at all. There was no flow of oil to the cooler when I wasn't tuning the steering wheel.
Good luck!

Dont you mean the smaller the displacement of the helm the easier it will turn.. and more turns lock to lock?? That is what I have found to be correct. If I am wrong I would like to be corrected....thanks.
I know I had to go to a smaller helm with my WPM steering to make it turn easier..

Since you used a Northern tool catalog helm....is it possible to also use a 12 volt hydraulic pump allowing the mercruiser pump to be removed? less parasitic drag=MORE POWER
...Has anyone ever tried this??? or maybe as an emergency back-up?
Thaks guys for all the information....I was gone to the lake for a few days.
