Beware
Hey all...i recently put some things up for sale on OSO..i recieved some messages from two people wanting to purchase the items.. i was happy to sell them.. but was a little apprehensive seeing the guys purchasing the items were from another country... but were sending the monies from florida... And offered to save me time and aggrevation by arranging the shipping I had never sold anything like this and didn't really think much of it..They were sending me a check for my item and also the shipping costs that i was to forward to the company doing the shipping. After recieving the check my wife insisted on calling the company it was written from and they assured her the check was forged. As were several other checks to ebay users. She would not arrange shipping till the check was confirmed so we lost nothing. IMPORTANT YOU CANNOT JUST CALL THE BANK THE CHECK IS ISSUED OFF OF. THEY WILL SAY IT WILL CLEAR. BECAUSE IT IS AN ACTUAL ACCT FROM SOME BUSINESS. THEY GET THE NUMBERS AND PRINT THEIR OWN CHECKS. YOU HAVE TO CALL THE ACCTS PAYABLE DIVISION OF THE COMPANY IT IS WRITTEN OFF OF. MY WIFE HAD TO CALL INFORMATION BECAUSE THE PHONE NUMBER ON THE CHECK WAS FALSE. SHE LET THEM KNOW THEY WERE BEING FRAUDED. They don't really want your item... what happens is they send you shipping charges which you inturn send to a dummy company that is supposedly picking up your item but what really happens is you are sending them the shipping monies and then when the bank realizes the check is fraudulent they take the money back from your acct. ebay users lost lots.. So if something sounds to good to be true it most likely is. Both the offers were from people scamming others.
So be careful

Ya know, these kinds of scams are a daily occurance now.
Cars, boats, everything! Wonder how this will change things - the way transactions are done, etc. over the web, etc.???

Worst part is our law enforcement will not do anything about it. The feds are so backloged by this kind of stuff that they just don't care anymore.

I strictly use only Paypal. Yes it cost's money to use their service but in my eyes it is well worth it. The money is transferred into your Paypal account is automatic and Paypal will even protect you against being defrauded. Two ways to make a deal in my eyes....1. Cash in hand or 2. Paypal
