My dads got a 1986 20' deck boat with a 5.0 and cobra drive....no idea on hours but its ALL original! This will be his 7th year with the boat and the previous owner was the original owner....everything is taken care of like clockwork. I change oil on everything in the spring and its always almost like new! And they use the boat every weekend for partying with friends/family, tubing, fishing etc....
Ive heard good and bad about the cobra lines...but the consesus is if you take care of things ASAP they will last......i have yet to change the inpeller for the freash water supply!! I check it every year and its like new as well!!!

The 460 inch Ford engine is a solid piece...for a TRUCK!
I'd be more worried about the Cobra drive...like getting parts and finding someone willing to work on it.
Back in the old days at Everglades Marina we took an immaculate 34' Scarab III in trade with the 460 King Cobra packages. If they hadn't wrecked the building and built condos on the property it would still be there.

i've heard nothing but bad about the omc drives, alot of marinas wont even work on them cuz they are just such a P.O.S. design.
Your all geeked to find a boat that floats and runs at a good deal, but whats a drive gonna cost when it grenades on you IF you can find the parts and a place that will work on it?
Now lets think resale, NOBODY that knows anything about boats would buy a boat with an OMC drive... alot of places wont even take em on trade in. Just a simple fact, they take sooooo....ooooo....ooooo long to sell with an OMC, there's a reason for that.
So dont be too trigger happy on this boat.

I wouldn't want one myself cause I like to break the merc stuff but I run with 2 guys with king cobras and they both have 800+ hours on them and neither outdrive has been touched. They are both behind 460's on heavy 24-26' boats. The electrical system is overly complicated though.
