'79/'80 Hammond V2150 Challenger
Hi All,
I'm new here. I've been searching for any other owners of the pre-MKII Challengers. Or that others do still exist.
I bought her off Lake LBJ, near Austin, TX. I was told I'm the 3rd. owner and she's purported to be the "prototype", taken to the lake for dealer demo, and sold there.
Thanx for any input!
BTW - I'll post a couple pics if I figer it out.

I used to have an '89 Stryker 2150 here in Austin. Same hull. Traded it off years ago and wish I hadn't. Great boat and super fast hull. What motor is in it?
There is another thread around here somewhere with a bunch of them. Bob Hammond still lives here in Austin last I heard.

That looks like the photo shoot/dealer meeting boat. You can see the 1980 brochure (with that actual boat) at www.classicglastron.com . Go to the Hammond section. I ran that actual boat at the 1980 dealer meeting at Bob Hammond's home on Lake Austin. Tried to buy it but it was already sold to Louie Raven's local dealership. I bought hull # 2 and I believe #4. This was my favorite Hammond,but Bob didn't build many of these before he changed to the deeper and roomier Mk II.Both had the same George Linder running surface,but not splashed,liscensed by Hammond.You have a keeper.

It has a Mercruiser 260 and thru hull exh. by prev owner. MAN it sounds good. I think the sound rivals my '76 Century w/Chrysler 318/225.

Your account seems to validate my use of "purported" in my orig. post. Sure wish I could find out the # of mine and how many were made. Has NOTHIN' to do with value, just curious/excited. She'll be mine until I'm gone. It's in my shop, ready for orig. refinish.
I'm a CGOA member and they don't have a brochure for '81. When did the topside change?

Best of my memory the low deck was only produced in 1980,I would guess less than a dozen.We bought 3. Bob decided it was too cramped and for 1981 he raised the deck and also introduced an outboard version of which he built maybe 3 or 4. We bought 2,rigged one with the infamous 1981 Merc 300 outboard,the other we sold to a testing lab who weighted it down till it sank to see if Hammond had proper flotation,he did(love gov't projects).One of the early low decks like yours that went to Louie Raven's ,wound up with a big block. I remember seeing it but don't remember the drive,that was before the Bravo. I'll try to dig up a little more,it's been a long time. Roberrt
