On mine, I have electronic indicators and not mechanical, so I have lots of dash space, sun was again unfriendly.
I mounted mine atop the dash by my compass, I carefully followed the mount instructions for pre drilling and ss screw sizes, i did the best of both worlds, pulled compass and through bolted/mounted with #6 ss screws and lock nuts and used self tapping on the the third.
I am VERY pleased with the plain 176. Since my bracket and wires were in we took those two items off the new box and put them in my trade box, no questions ask...
As far as wiring, the hot is fused, I cut the fuse holder off, drilled a small hole and PULLED the wire through the dash, then spliced, soldered and shrink wrapped the connection leaveing 2 inches slack above the dash for swivel movement etc....
Wire to breaker and life was good.
