Twin Or Triple In A 40-42 Feet???

Had three in a 40 with the twins running you give the throttle on the third and can feel it add and watch the speed climb. Blow a drive and you have 2 others to get home on The trips ran faster than a twin in the same boat and the fuel was not like people think For I could run less( a lot) rpm than the twin and be at the same speed.

I have had both in 42 Fountains, go twin staggered all the way, the trips seem to want to lose drives, If you do 750s on a Bravo you better keep a spare at all times! I do have a 2000 42 staggered #6 fountain for sale, 1100 cobras, can naturally asperate easly, I am ready to deal on the boat, I dont need two boats!

Mark, feel free to question. I laid this out there because I don't know. I remember back in the early 90's when I was racing in an "A" class boat and we were running twin small blocks (400hp each) and we were getting smoked by single engine 700hp boats. Someone gave me a rough equation similar to what I stated but I don't know how true it is but seemed logical.
A triple 525 43 Nor-Tech runs 90 while a twin 700 runs in the mid 90's.

I have triples on a 47 and I know that wasn't the question but there are a few clear advantages. There is less stress on each motor and drive. I trim the center out a little further than the outers because when equally trimmed it does have more stress (more fuel, runs hotter, lower rpm). If it is trimmed higher they run better. I think I use the same amount of fuel as twins but a huge advantage is much lower power per motor and dramatically increased engine life.

I have never blown a drive on my 91 triple Fountain with 540's. At 3800RPM I am crusing at 60 MPH. I can also get to low 90's with a straight bottom hull. It gets on plane very easy, and is very good in the rough water. Also keep in mind the drives have a 33% strain, vs. 50%. If you do happen to break one engine. It sure is nice limping back home on 2 engines vs. 1
I also have spent some time behind the wheel of an 06 42 Fountain with 600's. It's top end acceleration was unbelivable, but harder to park.
Fuel consumption is going to depend on engines and hull. I did the entire Destin run on 150 Gallons.
All depends on your current budget.

I will only speak from my experience, " not hear say, not shoot from the hip answers"
