Mirage Plus - Prop Change
Need some help. I am trying to switch props on my boat, I have a Bravo 4 I am taking off and putting a Mirage Plus that came with my boat on. The Bravo had a hub with the built in lock collar the Mirage does not. I think its a older Mirage as it does not have the vent hole in the side or any type of hub.
My question and concern is that when I have the prop on the shaft there are no expsed splines to fit the lock Collar (the brass collar that takes the star washer). Can I just bolt the prop on with out any type of lock behind the nut ? Am I mising something ?
I have a pic attached of the prop on the shaft showing how it sits right up to the threads, and the collor that I had though was used as well.
I know the prop fits as when I test drove the boat it had this 3 blade prop on it.

Check the thrust washer. Going from the non-solid hub on the Bravo 1 to the solid hub of the Mirage, you'll need a different thrust washer. That should allow the Mirage to sit lower and fit the tabbed washer.

Nope. I had have a different washer just for this prop it is all the way down. I also even tried it with out a thrust washer at all. It still does not let the prop slide down far enought to expose any of the splines.

Ok - Sp I called Mercury and spoke with 2 differnt people thay both thoug I was crazy and were clue less to what I was taking about. The kept trying to sell me tab washer that I already have and cant use. Needless to say prop will be up for sale soon. And I will be replacing it unless anyone catches this thread with any better advise.

I had an old three blade cleaver worked spinelli on my 18' formula and replaced it with a 4 blade Hydromotive and believe I ran into the same problem. The thrust washer were different (had to be) and with one of the two (cleaver or 4 blade I don't recall which) the hub of the prop was just long enough to cover all the splines like you say. I just used the lock collar anyway (I believe it fit the shaft tight so it didn't move around and then the star washer and nut just like normal. Ran that for years never a problem.
