The surface drive helps that
I've ridden in a Blackhawks and NEVER AGAIN!! Those are a little too loose.

From the looks of the dash, You have a X-18 Donzi that was built prior to 1980. The way the boat was running and the amount of steering that was being done looks like she was chine walking. The best thing about the X-18 was the deck design and that was to keep the nose down at high speeds. What year is the Donzi ?? Be interested to know . who knows that might have been I put togetyher in the good old years of Donzi..![Cool](/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif)

I have a 1973 with a 383 Mag and BravoI. The deck design is cool but I am not sure how much it helps. The hull is exactly the same as the classic 18. Mine is a hoot at 71-72 I could not imagine going 100+ in that hull

I met George at a Donzi run a couple years back during the Miami Boat Show. I asked him why he sold his boat, he said he just had a child, and decided he would rather be around when he grew up, than to keep tempting fate. I helluva nice, unassuming guy, and smart as hell. He was also the most safety concious high performance boater I ever met.
I believe he told me his fastest pass was 124.
I'm sure he corrected any sawing on the steering.
Poodle, post that picture where he is driving with one hand, and has a parachute on his back. He looks like he's just out for a Sunday cruise. It took some major sack to run that fast. He took another buddy of mine, Catch 22 for a ride, and that made Catch go off the deep end. Next thing you know, he has a 22 C with a procharger, and everything else required to run 93+. He's a careful boater too, but as I tell him, he couldn't get me in that boat with a gun! His dad will load right up with him though. The fruit didn't fall far from the tree.![Smilie](/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

George Desmond was and still is the KING of the fastest small boat! ![Big Grin](/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Funny - even when George never hit 115mph at the radar shootout I never head excuses from him.
Thats what seperates the men from the boys.

George is a great guy. He came to the radar shootout knowing he had the fastest boat in his class. Showed up, very humble, great guy.
Ran the boat - kicked azz - said thank you for all the compliments and everyone "including the labo guys" came running over to check his stuff out and admire.
Thats the difference between class.............and a fat Piney with bad breath from South Jerseywith a 22 Stinger.![Big Grin](/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Although I always wondered how George fit in his boat with balls the size of of Mount Rushmore?![Big Grin](/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
