This was mercury's recommended price but my guy doing the R&R gave me a discount. Orignal quote was $22,810 each engine.
They just better perform as well as the first 125 hours.
The engines HAVE BEEN AWESOME. GREAT RELIABILITY.

JB, I was on the phone with Randy at Cobra (a certified Mercury dealer for 25+ years) when you posted and told him about it. He said he would rebuild them, do all the upgrades, give you a 6 months warranty....all for $26.000.00 each. With a guarantee that $26,000.00 each is all you will pay, no up selling or surprises.

I realize it was for two motors...Even though my post didn't read like that. 92k is insane. I mean really, I'd like to see a build sheet after the rebuild. Do they charge 300 an hour for labor?

Im completely envious of your ability to have this problem to start with ( & I want a ride in your rig) but ThisisTank is right.

I dont understand either. What are you getting for 22.8K an engine?
and you said you had "the uppers" done. PLEASE show us the build sheet.

Actually if you could get the shop to print an injection profile for you that would be really enlightening- that will show you how much time the engines have spent at various throttle openings, and all the late model mercs (nmea 2000 compliant mercs) have this.

DO you mean you paid to get an engine top end freshening?- or a drive upper?

I'm really curious to compute out the real ownership costs of this package are.

Good to hear they are reliable- they should be at that price. Combine the acquisition costs, with the upper spend + the fresh up at 125 hours and the valve adjustments - and wow.......

WOW! I'm just blown away at the prices Merc gets for a REBUILD. And this was on a good running motor that just needed freshening.

THIS IS WHY THERE HURTING FOR BUSINESS ,
ALL I CAN SAY IS ONE THING.
"" GREED """"
THEY WONT BE GETTING AWAY WITH THIS FOR TO LONG IN THIS ECONOMY .

PLENTY OF GOOD HIGH END BUILDER'S THAT WILL REBUILD THESE MOTOR'S FOR LESS THEN HALF OF THE PRICE THAT MERC WANT'S WITH BETTER PART'S THAT LAST LONGER THEN 125 HOUR'S . IV HERD OF SOME OF THESE CUSTOM BUILDER'S 1000HP MOTOR'S RUNING 200 PLUS HOUR'S BEFORE A REBUILD .

JUST MY 2cents

I'm sure these guys are the same ones that get 24 MPG on a stock dually and have boats that run 15-20 MPH faster than identical boats with identical power......

200+ hours on 1000 HP before rebuilds seems optimistic when stories have popped up about stock 525's going boom in 100 hours or less. My idea of a trouble free motor is how many hours before it has to be disassembled for anything (top end, valves whatever).
