Props?...unorthodox tweakings?...
Has anyone ever tried with a grinder on a spare "who cares" prop to modify on his/her own to get better performance? I'm hearing that if I were to grind down .180" off the leading edge of my stock Bravo 4-blade I'd gain 1-200 rpm and maybe a tad bit more speed. It's an intriqueing idea. I guess all I would need is a good pair of calipers and a steady eye/hand to pull it off. In fact, I have such a spare "who cares" prop....hmmmm

i turned a trashed mirage 3 blade into a cleaver. I woudln;t run it on my boat because it woudl vibrate teh hell of of the drive and waste soem stuff butits a neat paper weight in my garage/shop and look cool on the wall....
I woudl leave prop tweakignto teh pros. I used to fly r/c helis and learned when you have blades rotaing at high speed and they are even slightly out of balance you can create massive vibrations in whatever they are mounte don. It think you ar ebetter off payign $300 and having it labbed to see if it works than to spend $1500 to rebiuld your lower unit cuase your frankenprop cooked all the bearings on an out of balance prop shaft

Yeah, that's my fear. Just thought it an interesting survey type of question for those who like to experiment in the garage...
