Question on the 496 mag ho
I just sold my boat and have my eye on a pristine 02 Baja 25 Outlaw. The boat is in better than new shape my only concern is it has 313 hours on the motor 496 Mag HO. Is this alot for this motor and what will I be looking at doing to it in the near future...

Do your do dilligence, check the motor thoroughly. Hire a good wrench to check it out, sea trial it etc. spend a few bucks for the security in knowing it is as good as it looks. Then service it fully so you have a start point to go on from.

We see many 496HO'S and Mags that have 1500-1800 hours of trouble free use if they are properly serviced and cared for. They are fresh water closed cooled engines so water type they are operated in is not as important as the care and flushing they receive.
Three hundred well cared for hours is nothing at all for these engines as long as they have been serviced properly, not abused, or left in the water or in storage for overly long periods without use.
Best Regards,

313 hrs is nothing on a 496HO, but as everyone else says, as long as it was cared for. You blow a motor up in 1 hr if your an idiot, but seriously 496 HO should go for 1000 hrs before I would worry.
