Depending on the branch of the military
The Army used
ER ######## for Enlisted Reserve
NG######## for National Guard
US ######## for when you were drafted ( A thing from the past)
RA######### for Regular Army, if you enlisted
I would think they would have a way of cross- checking the Old system to the SS# system

Prior to the military useing SS#s ID, they used a ID number system. Am talking in the 60s and 70s at least.
