That thing looks like a VW Thing. How many people were on it? Scary

Ammazing how bad this could have been. 37 people on board. They where anchored due to mechanical problems. Pilot of the duck followoed his co. protocol and radioed for help but only on channel 13. Next thing it was hit from behind, twisted to port and rolled under the barge sinking like a rock. They just dropped it on our pier, doesn't look bad at all considering. Those poor people had a fight on their hands getting out of that thing while it was sinking and rolling. Fireboat Independence recovered the girls body this morning and the boy was found after he surfaced when the crane was set in place. He submerged again and then was under the crane and found when the crane barge moved, so all accounted for. At least they can all travel home together back to their country. Sad day for sure but this river is no joke. I'm shocked that we're not looking for 37 bodies.

That looks nasty. I thought it was hit by a more traditional flat barge. I'm surprised too that it wasn't much worse.

It is a traditional flat barge. The thing that looks like a superstructure is the Ben Franklin Bridge in the background. The barge was empty at the time. Coast Guard has the entire running over on video caught by several cameras in NJ on buildings and the news camers. It's nuts to see. No way this should have happened, video shows barge and tug way down river, it could have easily manuvered to midstream to avoid the duck. This didn't happen in a few minutes. Barge was coming up river against the out going tide just never seen him. Those ducks are always out there during the day. We always stay mid stream while passing Penns Landing. Don't know why the barge was so close to the Philly side that time.
