They're rare now, even here in the South-West.

This brings back fond memories for me. My first boat was a (1978??) 18' version with a 2-barrel Ford 302 and a Volvo 280 drive. Loved that boat. Zero eng/drive issues for many years. Awesome river boat but not much in the rough big lake environment where It would beat the crap out of you. Got lot of looks since there was nothing else around that looked soo cool. I called it my James Bond boat. It was pretty light and I towed it around with my Z-28 with no problems at all.

In the 1990's, there was a guy I knew as Robby that lived in the Austin area and did glass work. Had a thick Scottish accent. He said he worked with Bob Hammond building the prototypes and was involved in testing the jet versions at 100+ MPH. I took my boat to him for a stringer repair. It was all orig (almost mint cosmetically) and blew him away when I pulled up to his shop. I figured having him do the repair was a close to a factory repair as I could get. Same guy was driving one of the racing versions at 100+ when something broke and put the boat into a violent left turn. Sent him thru the side of the boat and he broke a lot of stuff. He was one tough ol bird. Felt privileged to meet him and even more so to have him take care of my baby. Sometimes, I miss the simplicity of my ol CVX.

I had a buddy in high school who’s dad had a CVX 20 jet w/a 460 Ford.

I think he bought it new.

We pooled our money and filled it up and headed to the local pond.

Was fun but was a turd!

Would only do 60.
Not bad in the day but….

I remember in no time flat we were on fumes!

I remember telling my buddy it was a cool boat what a POS! (Because of the jet)

Educated me on jets and never forgot it.

Here is the ‘69 19’ OB I referred to in earlier posts and in old photo bucket pixs.

Oh yeah, I remember that Corinthian! This with twin Mercury 135s looks cute, but probably wasn't nearly as fast.

I loved that boat!

HUGE cabin (gunnel to gunnel) and w/the raised deck it had plenty of headroom to sit up in the cabin.

We slept 4 in it once!

Mine had a bow hatch.

My fathers roommate George had a metallic orange 23 CVX with a 440 and a jet drive. It was slow by comparison but to myself and Georges boys and myself ( I was 9 yo and Georges' boys were 11 and 12 yo) it was the coolest boat around. It was our James Bond boat as the movie was released around the same time. I learned to slalom ski behind it as it would yank us out of the water at 100# soaking wet. The hull has timeless good looks.
