Okay, you have me on the 'on the run' tuning. Fuel / not spark though.

Absolutely not. Well, maybe some people.

But that is becoming less and less.

Weird thing, there are many people out there very adept at tuning FI, but very afraid of carburetors.

True, but funny.

Its been coming around, thats for sure.

I was half way joking about it, another reason is $$$. Quite a bit cheaper to buy an intake/carb/MSD box to control timing and fire coils than it is to buy an aftermarket EFI setup + wiring harness....and then you still need an intake and T/B if you arent going to use the stock one.

We absolutely love our Ilmor MV8 570 package we chose for our One Design Racing program. We did our testing on the race course this year, winning National and World Championships and giving us pure pulling power on the start and in the turns. Not to mention they look awesome. Anyone with questions about the motors feel free to call us anytime. Here are a few pics.

You can get a 100% plug and play Holley HP ecu and harness for the LS for about $1400, and use all the stock components, aside from upgrading to a cable throttle body. If you can program the MSD box to run the ignition on your carb set up, you can program the Holley EFI.

LS3 crate engines are cheap, like around 6k, the ls9 cam is a direct drop in that works with the stock springs and pushrods, it's under $200. Good aluminum exhaust manifolds are about $1000, Holley efi, and a throttle body, about $1700, heat exchanger $700. Merc style engine wiring harness, $150. Adapters to use your factory mounts, $50-$200. Use your existing coupler and bellhousing, you'll need a flywheel $150.
Total= Call it 10k. The last one I did with that exact combo made 515hp fully dressed through the manifolds @ 5900 rpm. It is unbelievably smooth, and is bulletproof. You can obviously make way more with a stroker kit, blower etc. but for 10k, I think it's a pretty sweet setup.

I'm actually not sure, we take about every option available, including the CMI Headers. www.ilmor.com has a bunch of information, and I would ask Ian Hawkins or Jessica Gamarra for pricing information when you call. I hear other racers talking about how Ilmor has the best HP for your $$$ value in the market, so I am sure they are very competitive. They also stand behind their product with a warranty and I know they have ski boat motors based on the LS platform with over 1000 hours on them and still running strong.

Ilmor - They are in all Mastercrafts boats for the past 4 years. I would say Ilmor LS engines have about 5000 engines in Mastercrafts total maybe a tad more than that. I work on them all the time and really nothing wrong nor major failures with them -. basically keep them maintained and cooled properly you are good to go.

Wonder why no one has tried this and set it up for marine use. Last year this engine could be bought for almost a grand less - that was a steal brand new. I have thought about. Wished it had more torque already built in, but again its not a big block.
