Where ARE all the LSx motors hiding???
Ok guys...help me out here...
It seems that everybody and their brother offers at least one Gen 3/Gen 4 small block marine engine package (Raylar, Lightning Performance, Mast Motorsports, Marine Power USA, Ilmor....hell even GM has LSA based marine engines available.
BUT WHERE ARE THEY? Who has these boats with these engines? How do they run? Was it worth the money vs. a comparable BBC setup? Pics of the installs?
Just something I've been wondering.
I'm not looking for an LS vs. BBC debate, just factual info about where these engine packages have landed, and how they run....

I realize this isn't a marine application, but GM now offers an LSX 454ci crate motor. 620hp.
Don't some guys take a GM crate motor and drop it right into a boat with few changes? What would it take to make this thing boat-worthy?

Here's a link to a 700hp offering from Mast:

Is this 522hp Ilmor offering LSX based?

Yeah, that Ilmor 7.4L is LSx based. So is the 5.7, 6.0, and 6.2 motors that they offer.
So is this one from LPG....675 hp

Thanks, and that's good info regarding an old (Gen 1) SBC that was taken from automotive use and used in a marine application, but what I'm referring to is Gen 3/4 LS based engines (LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, LS7, LS9, LSA, L92, LQ4, LQ9, LM7, L33, L99, etc.... and the GMPP LSX.)

He's asking some good questions that I've been wondering myself. I haven't seen the answer anywhere either, including this thread.
Correct me if I'm wrong, like you I see them advertised, but who is actually running them?
The Ilmor 7.4 sparked my interest too. After contacting them the other day they have informed me it does not exist yet at this point in time. I thought that a little odd.
I see late model wakeboard boats running some nice power on occasion, but that's the only place I see them in the real world.

Great question. It has to be just a matter of time before these engines make their way into mainstream performance boats. They are a major improvement in technology over the early SBC's in both power and efficiency. I just hope there are several vendors with proven packages to choose from when it's time to repower my 292!
