PWC heart breaker (radar gun)

Having raced and ridden PWC for 12 years I have seen this A LOT. I am amazed at the people that think they are running in excess of 60,70, and sometimes even 80mph. I see claims of outrageous speeds in classified ads. I here people boasting at my local watering hole. I even noticed a new member here in the last couple of days claimed they had 2 stock Kawis that run 75mph. Full race mods that cost in excess of 25k to build might be running 80mph. It would take somewhere in the area of $5,000 in mods to get the fastest Kawi up to 75mph.
A lot of the problem lies with the salesperson. Just like boats, the salesperson knows little more then the retail price of the boat. I am amazed at how many people in the market for such craft know more of the specs on a particular unit then the dealer.
If you think our speedos read high, you can double it on a PWC. They are commonly called dreamometers.

Turbojack must be on to something with that 10 MPH rule. It seems to work on a lot of powerboats as well. Some people just do not realize how hard it can be to get 10 more MPH. Especially on a PWC. They see a real race set up and think if mine goes 70 his must go 90. CLUELESS!!! The stalker always brings some interesting excuses to the table. My favorite one is " it was still climbing". Then they are going to need a loooonnnggg ass lake to eek that last 10 to 15 MPH out of her.

I like talking to people on the lake that tell me how fast there boat is. I then pull out the radar gun & ask them if they want to radar it. Most come up with all kind of excuses as to why they can not run.

I have a kawasaki ultra 150, the FASTEST stock ski ever made. Out of the box they do 64-65, I have a few mods and on gps have seen 66-67 and thats it. I also visit a few PWC message boards and unless these guys quote GPS or RADAR they are F.O.S.
Tripple pipes for 3 cylinder ski's cost as much as 2,500 carbs can cost 1,500 and a fully modified race boat with intake, ignition, carbs, pipes, can cost over 15,000 and hit speeds in the mid to high 70's, with the rare few hitting 80...
The shame of it all is my jet-ski is faster than my BAJA, 60 on GPS vs. 67, You should see the look on a lot of the guys running on the hudson river when a jet-ski passes them... PRICELESS....

Brad, in cases like that I actually feel bad telling them their actual result. I remember this sweet 21' Checkmate that claimed 83 MPH with a stock 502 EFI. Radared him at 70 MPH. He thought we were lying to him or that we had a trick gun. I felt bad for that guy. It is still a very nice and fast boat. Nothing wrong with a 70 MPH stocker. He did not see it that way.
Can you say DEPRESSED?

i'm out riding my ULTRA and people on ZXI's and sea-doo's ask me how fast it is,, I say 65, they say, their ski will do 70 - 75, so when we race and they get beat badly by a 65 mph ski and I tell them that their ski does mid to high 50's they don't believe me.
some people would rather believe their DREAM-0-METER...
