Checkmate Adds Largest Model in Company History
#231
Mostly a new boat, the lay up schedule is not public knowledge, there is very little to compare with. Cabin and options have not been disclosed, weight of the boat is not released yet. Probably even the best in the business would be only able to provide a good guess. It looks like the builders are going to wait to see how it runs rather then guess.

I loved and sometimes miss my Checkmate. It was my first real performance boat and I learned alot in the few years of owning her. I hope this one runs as good as it looks!
Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't it been established that this is a "one off" from leased molds???

Sean, Doug Smith, the man that started Baja now owns Checkmate. The original Checkmate founder's sons still work at the company (Mike and Kip Combs). Ironically, Doug Smith started Baja by buying retired Checkmate molds!! When he purchased Checkmate, he added a few of Baja's molds/models to Checkmate's lineup to capture a broader market for sales. These models are the ZT350, ZT 275, ZT244 and SFX 250. They are easy to recognize as rebadged Bajas by their rounder look as opposed to Checkmate's more aggressive traditional offshore boats but they are now built using Checkmates superior standards of fully endgrain balsa coring both the topdecks and hulls with more modern lamination schedules. Both Checkmate and the original Baja factory (now closed) are located in Bucyrus, OH.
