Yes a restoration like this is very time consuming. We have been very busy in service and with customer deliveries so we have not had alot of time to work on the Thunder. We are back on boat for a couple days this week and next and hope to put a further dent in the project. This week we rigged the stereo, amps, head unit, two way radio, and GPS.

Ok this is a great restoration. I also don't want to sound like I am pickin, but why are there 6.5" under the bench seat, and why are the other ones so low in the cockpit. The 6.5" being in the bench with the subs are going to get distorted from the subs pressure, if not blown outright. With the speakers being so low in the boat, they will be very hard to hear.

I assume this may be due to the original location from the factory of the speakers. For the money being spent on this restoration. I would have removed the 6.5" from those locations. Covered the holes in the bench altogether, and put in another set of subs where the others are low in the cockpit. I would move the 6.5" much higher in the cockpit so that they would be heard. This would not cost alot in the terms of the restoration, but make a huge impact on the sound.

I'm no audio expert, but I think the speaker placement is a minor detail in a restoration of this caliber .

I'm pretty sure most high end home speakers, share a sealed cabinet between the subwoofers and mid range woofers?

yep! they may be free air woofers but either way those smaller speakers will act as passive resonators...Poof

I can tell you from being in the business, the midrange in a good home speaker will either be in it's own sealed compartment, or it will be a sealed back driver. Subs and mid high drivers dont get along, even in a bench like that. The subs will hurt those 6.5"

Not trying to start anything. But I would think that doing a resto like this that the placement of those speakers is something minor in cost, but huge in performance.

low speakers in a boat actually work out better do to the fact that it is all open. with them low the sound will bounce off the side panels and be clearer and seam louder in the boat. but at the same time wont carry out as far.
