Check out the Sonic section there are some posts in there claiming the 28 with twins had some porpiousing issues...no 1st hand knowledge of that here. I have a 1990 Sonic 30 with twin BBC. It has some midrange porpious but up to speed runs straight and true. Test drive them both. I think you will find the Sonic is much heavier would probably be a better rough water boat.

The 28SS is known to have some porpoise. It's also the least popular Sonic model, and you will not like trying to work on it. It's like two motors crammed in a breadbox.
That said, the Sonic will be bigger than the AT, especially in the cabin. It will also ride a bit heavier, and hull to hull, will probably ride smoother because of it. It's probably 1500 lbs. heavier, maybe more.
The ATs were built very solid back then, (still are) and will handle much more nimble compared to that Sonic. It will do fine in some Great Lakes slop, but you are not going out in 6-8s sipping a martini. There were plenty of those boats built in that era, relatively speaking for AT; and the only issue we ever had was a bent bolster on one of the race boats.
Put a post up in the AT section about the specific 25 you are looking at, and someone with some specific knowledge on that boat may chime in. You will also get some more first hand accounts of how the boat runs. R'Addiction is on his 12th or 13th season in his, and can compare it to a lot of other boats as well.

Thanks for the info Brian! I've done my homework on the AT Tantrums but wasn't sure how they compared to the Sonic. I know the 26 is a more common boat, but all of them that I have seen have an enclosed head and a couple other amenities that IMO waste space in an already small cabin.

We need more information. Stock vs stock I'd take the AT. If the AT has a single 600hp+ motor in front of a bravo one outdrive I'd take the sonic with twin stock small blocks.
