85 scarab 1
hey guys im new to the boating world as i just got my 1st boat over the winter its a very clean scarab 1 with the merc 350c.i.d. engine and alpha 1 drive . i keep reading about boats with trim tabs installed on them . my question is do i need these and if so what size or brand ? i will be running this boat mostly on inland lakes in mi. and the occasional runs on the great lakes . any help would be appreciated

I ran this exact boat without tabs. Usually had a load of people and even pulled a wake boarder. Look at the bottom, it has a built in tab.
Thats not saying that they won't help, but the boat has made it from 85 until now and no one has installed them on it. That might tell you how necessary they are.

If you do decide to run tabs on it you can get away with a set of Bennets or something like that. Doubt you would need anything as stout as 280's.

I'll agree with Dave that you don't need a real stout tab like K-Planes given the kind of water you'll be running. Probably the easiest tab to install these days is the Lenco full electric tabs.
