The...
p/u, sumps for the pumps are in the bottom, 3' or so forward of the transom so in rough water it would cavitate which would eliminate it's thrust compared to an I/O where that part of the boat can be a 1' in the air but the props are still in the water providing thrust.

anything that most ingest water for thrust must stay in the water at all times to pick up the water or it loses thrust,,thus anything with a jet will not work in any water condition that lifts the water inatake OUT of the water,,thus jets SUCK as a propulsion unit in anything except mostly flat lake water..

In the late 1970's a friend of my late-father had a 21' Challenger with a Ford Cobra Jet (not sure if it was the 428 or 429), and a droop snoot on the Berkley Jet drive, he named it "Restless Jet." That boat ran very well at that time, in flat water, and as stated above worked best in flat water. That is only V that I remember with a Jet Drive, he had the boat built new that way.
I actually think the motor had hemi-heads, that was a long time ago.

[QUOTE=502ss;3697904]This might be the boat that was featured in powerboat. Hard to tell but it looks to be a 24'?

That's the one it's an Ultra 23. I forget what his WOT is but it's in the 80s I believe.

I own a 21' Tahiti jet boat with a 502 and in rough water yes the pump cavitates but it's not like the boat stops, when it enters back in the water the propulsion is right back again, oh year and no risk of the drive going boom!!
I think the word "suck" is a bit harsh

I saw a twin jet drive Vee's For Sale last year with big blocks. I think it was a Super Hawaiian or something like that. The boat was from the late 70's or early 80's and was about 26-29 ft. long with a cabin. It was a neat looking boat, something like the Nautilus. LOL
