Hi All,
Had a really good day testing the new parts the automatic vent tube works a treat, all the advantages of an open vent tube without the disadvantages, boat will now stay on the plane at 20mph. Paddle throttles also work very well but are a little too sensitive, i will make some new gears to change the ratio which will correct this.
Steering is absolutely spot on very precise and light with absolutely no torque steer, boat now feels like it is on rails, only ran up to 80mph during testing as i need to check everything after the shakedown.
We are going to the Miami Show tomorrow, hope to meet some of you guys there…….

The beast is tamed
Hi All,
97mph run near Miami, 70 gallons of fuel on board along with all our tools, 5750 rpm with plenty of power in hand, just need to make the throttle less sensitive and she will be a really sweet drive.

I had my lowers done at the same time the drives were apart to have the gear ratio changed as well as swapped the prop rotation so there wasn't any way to really A / B the lowers & isolate the gain to just the blueprinting of the lowers. I also had just added a tunnel tab. All changes made yielded a positive result but to this day actual top speed potential is unknown b/c I'm out of prop & couldn't put my hands on a set of 39's when I needed them.
The laws of physics alone will tell you having a true & symmetrical lower bullet & skeg over one w/ a rougher cast finish & maybe even a slight bow in it. Unless you did all your A / B testing the same day in the same conditions & temperatures & continued to refill the fuel to the same level I don't think one can really pin point where the measurable gain came from. I don't know too many people that do thjat when they are prop testing etc.
My skegs are stock length to my knowledge.

is it just me or is this level of quality unacceptable?
Hi John,
You would be very welcome the reason we have not been posting is that we have had more than our fair share of difficulties...... took us over a week to find someone to insure our truck. After the Miami show we took the boat to the launch ramp for it's first test opened up the box with a shiny new herring in it only to find it was LEFT HAND!!!!(: with all the other difficulties we had had this capped it of.. so we went to Key West for a few days holiday herring in the meantime sent another prop not quite the right size but it will get us going while they build the correct one. On our return to Fort Lauderdale we ran the boat on the hose and found it impossible to bleed the steering what should have been a 10 minute job turned into a half day marathon!! checking everything and diagnosing the problem fortunate i am a hydraulics engineer... turned out to be the power steering relief valve jammed in the bottom of the housing would suspect from debris in the hosing Ian Hawkins from Ilmor overnighted me a new cartridge, it was a hell of a job to get the old one out as it was really well jammed, eventually removed the part and flushed the pump installed the new one filled up the oil reservoir and the system bled immediately another hurdle over..
Now able to run the engine for extended periods it soon became obvious that the merlin system was not communicating with the engine? spoke with Ian Hawkins again who arranged for their electronics guru Jim Coats to come out yeterday and program the whole system, he went through everything in minute detail setting up the trim tabs and drive trim indicators to my liking he also zeroed them to my preferred position, so now everything is working beautifully we can now GO BOATING.... but the weather is not looking too good today(:

That is better than par for the course when you are talking about "one-off" custom installations. The herring prop situation is unfortunate, not typical from what I read.
Ilmor jumping right in is what will have me looking to buy from them if I buy new. Since I only buy my toys for cash, that probably wont be happening until I get the last of 5 though University
