Horsepower does always seem to get the spotlight, but once an engine is produced the torque numbers are always listed directly below power output. When the engine goes into production all the numbers will be available.

What a lot of people are missing here is the importance of the variable cam timing that Ilmor is using. The effect that this technology has on the torque curve is immense. There is no way to duplicate the effect with any other form of tuning other than to apply supercharging with variable boost.

i cant speek for those motors but i know mine made 625 ftlbs of torque and are right on par with a big block and those motors are on par with a 525 that boat has the props baried x dimension wise and accellerats lika drag car it it unbilevable the variable cam timing is light years ahead of the current big blocks and it makes torque like crazy as cspray mentioned

The Ilmor engine makes the same HP with 79 CID less and can use 87 octane even with two points more compression ratio. Better breathing likely; better combustion for sure. Would expect to see the same fuel consumption results as the recent Volvo comparison.
