I got big air off of a freighter wake last year and the lone back seat passenger said she saw both of our feet up front. We both had the sense and confidence in the boat to hold on. I agree that the landing may not have been that bad depending on how deep the trough was.

I guess my point is know your waters, read your charts, plan your route, if you're out screwing around make sure that it's "screwable". I live on the east coast, never picked up a surf board, don't know squat about surfing, and I've sure as heck heard of Mavericks. If you're half a mariner you know points are convergence zones for waves, and isn't there a shallow reef there too?

Who knows the details, maybe I take being on the water too seriously but geez, that's serious stuff.

Ok if anyone here has landed in a rough one before we all know that there is no way that was smooth landing... That bow was easily 50 feet straight up.... The wave was a minimal I'd 20 feet.... And a 11,000 +++ pound boat.... No fukkin way in hell was that a smooth landing no matter how you look at it or what anyone else has done in the past... Not smooth.... I guarantee that

My encounters are all on a smaller scale with a 22' boat and 6-8 feet wakes, but I have sailed through the air in what seems like slow motion and landed and it was not hard at all. The deep V angle splits the water and as long as you land reasonably straight then it is all good. Scary but good. In this case we will never know unless the driver comes forth. We just can't see the landing. The guy that came up in the air must have been still holding on though. It would be pretty stupid to let go......

I understand in many cases it can land smooth.. Watch that video... Look at height and angle.... I hav landed my 35 footer smooth off big water.... But there is not way to land that one smooth that's a 43 foot boat standing straight up and fell of a 20+ wave!! I mean seriously... One person is seen completely in the air out of cockpit before it disappears over wave... Wonder how smooth his landing on the now was?

Besides... If it was smooth with no issues do you think the boat would be seen in the next shot just sitting there ??? Nope he woulda kept going since the next one was half the size... It's not hard to see that

I didn't see much room or time to turn around ... If he tried and there was not enough time that wave woulda rolled him right over sideways
