Default merc 8.2 380hp vs volvo 6.0 380 hp

Any opinions on which is better in a 27' 6000 lb. boat in terms of top end, durability, fuel burn & any other differences ect.
Thinking of buing a new boat in a year or so & was wondering what the thoughts are on thes two motors.

There have already been some head to head comparisons made between the two motors. A quick Google search should find them.

Surprisingly, the test results have been very favorable for the VP 380. It has a lot of torque and weighs considerably less than the Merc Big Block. I'd consider this engine in the future although I want to see more long term results. But in the head to head testing on a Formula, the VP was faster.

Volvo Penta. These new 6.0's with VVT are amazing. My 2012 2500 4x4 has the 6.0 and it is a mule, wanting a pair in my 292 fastech.

I bought a GSA spec 2005 ex FBI/Secret Service Escalade at auction with a Hi Po 6.0...I've very impressed with that engine. I want to build a pair to have on hand for my next project.

Thanks for the link. Interesting comments regarding the ability to gear it down to 2.14 to 1 since the 6.0 has a 5800 rpm redline (vs 4800 rpm). Combine that with the VVT and weight savings and it was pretty evident in the side-by-side acceleration drills. Very impressive!

The Volvo Penta 420 may already be available now. VP is not very big on splashy press releases...
