That would be incorrect. The 1100 / 1350 upgrade wouldn't work due to the dual TBs on the 1350s vs the 1100, there's actual difference in the intake system. The 1350/1650, you could theoretically do, without revealing much, the major difference are in the turbos, visually you cannot see this. I will say that much...

Why you'd only want a motor that only runs on 112 , granted the significant power is major, but I just don't see the benefit when the 1350 boat are being pushed to absurd speeds as it stands. Just My humble opinion.

I'll bet John is getting a chuckle out of this thread! If he did upgrade to 1650, a sniff of his exhaust will tell.

Well if John had upgraded power by 600+ hp total I think he would have totally dusted Kenny in the Phantom boat. Just sayin.
If John is reading this, thanks for putting on a great event to benefit kids in need. I'll be there again next year.

thanks for the info. I was told that the 1650 was just a 1350 with ecu upgrade and on race fuel. I was obviously told wrong so thank you for clearing that up!

.
You are correct that it would take an intake system and an ECU remap to go from 1100's to 1350's. To go from 1350's to 1650's you would need an ECU upgrade and some internal components, turbos, etc to upgrade to the exact same motor. None of which Mercury Racing will do for EPA reasons. They will only sell complete motor/drive packages.
Could someone perhaps figure out how to program the ECU's? Probably, but it would not be legal nor would it be a good idea.

The boat with 1100's is awesome! It will run 150+ all day long, idle like 525's, and has been trouble free. It is a beautiful boat for sure, very classy looking.
The only reason I am selling is to get a bigger boat and of course, yes, more power.
Wait til you see the next one!

I have not dealt with Merc on the new motors but I did on the 1075 and 1200's. And there response when I was getting 1075's completely rebuilt and asking about have them made into 1200's was "no". They said their company policy is to only rebuild a motor to what it came from the factory as, no matter how easy it might be to upgrade it. I would assume this policy would carry over to the new Turbo motors as well.
