Were they giving rides on that boat when it came out at the first Miami show? If so I went for a ride in it up goverment cut and out in the ocean in what seemed like 8 footers doing 60 mph, the guy doing the driving was the race driver or throttleman at the time, wide open in goverment cut we were doing 85 with 5 people on board. I was only on my second boat at the time a lowly 22zx so it was quite a thrill for me and my girlfriend.

Yes, that was likely Doug Valentine who took you on a ride. He told me they finished building the boat in Sarasota pretty much untested in rough water and had no idea what kind of boat they had on their hands. They got to the Miami show and were giving demo rides in huge water and the ZRC just ate it up. It was only then that they knew the ZRC was gonna be a great race boat. If I remember correctly Doug told me they were real 5 - 6's.

I gotta tell ya there's just something really cool about having number 001 of something let alone ZRC #1. The Comp tops my list of "gotta have one someday". Its a shame that it was let slide into the condition it was in but thats probably what allowed it to fall into the hands of someone who will appreciate it. Mitch is the man and the graphics look great

What is even more sad is that when Donzi was in Sarasota in the prime days that set of molds was kept inside and protected. Now they are wasting away in the field behind the Fountain plant in NC with all of the other tooling from Baja, Proline, Fountain.

Yea it's really sad. I ordered a new hatch from them and after a few weeks they came back and said they could not locate the mold to make a new one.
