Default Water intake bypass kits

First time poster here may not be the right place to post if not I'm sorry. I was told by a guy to remove the water pumps off my motors and install the water intake bypass kits. Also recommend kits would be great info as well. Can anyone give me the pros an cons of this option. I have a 1990 31 Scarab Excell with built 454. Thanks in advance

The benefit is gained in horsepower by not having to spin the pump. You most likely wont be able to notice the difference. Some complain of hotspots in the engine with them installed. Merc spends alot of mony on their r&d and they still insist on using them. Save the money and put it in the gas tank in case lake St. Clair decides to thaw this year.
