Smith Brothers Offshore Racing Team Announces Technical Alliance

Smith Brothers Offshore Racing Team announced today that they have formed a technical alliance with Marine Design Corporation of Cary, Illinois. MDC is the designer and manufacturer of the DriveGuardian. DriveGuardian is a patent pending device designed to absorb and dissipate the shock-induced loading of the gear sets and shafts in a marine drive system and eliminate the damage from overloading. DriveGuardian’s design controls the maximum torque seen by the drive with zero impact or adverse effects under normal operation. Importantly, as designed, DriveGuardian’s operation is 100% mechanical, operates automatically, is completely transparent to the boat operator, and requires no additional maintenance.
“We are thrilled to be working with Mike Clesceri the designer of the DriveGuardian,” said team throttleman Rich Smith. “We rebuilt our drive after last season and found a twisted vertical shaft and chipped gears, all signs of overstressing the drive. Mike’s invention is designed to eliminate the immense stress put on the drive when running a boat in the rough conditions we race in.”
The team will be installing a DriveGuardian calibrated for their engine package immediately and will run the unit the entire Offshore Powerboat Association season.

This is very good and should give good feedback and reliability for the new product. Best way to get it out there is a give a few to some race teams who can report back and either help improve or talk it up where the average joe will be buying them

We are very happy with the unit after a hard season of racing on the OPA tour. Our old set up without the Drive Guardian saw our vertical shaft twisted. With the Drive Guardian, after an inspection of the lower unit before the OPA Worlds, all was good.
