This my point a pontoon company talking about their hull packing air, its basically an aluminum cat. I bet that thing would move pretty good with twin 300's, I wonder if cat insurance will drop to pontoon prices?

I looked at a few pontoons at the Detroit Boat show (pretty much all that show is) and I have to say, a few caught my eye. We are thinking about buying a 20-24 foot pontoon next season as a "week day" boat. Something I can just come home from work and jump on and go out for a few hours. Don't get me wrong, I will never make a pontoon my primary boat. But I would like one that can just jump on and go, come back, jump off and go home.

If someone ten years ago would have said pontoon boat sales would skyrocket, and literally save the boating industry, I would have told them they were crazy. Yet that's what happened. Bowrider and sterndrive sales have tanked, and outboard toon sales have kept rising every year. In California, 2013 sterndrive sales in the 16 to 35 foot category have plummeted to only 14% of what they were 10 years prior! There is even some industry talk about whether the sterndrive market will even survive.

I can see the appeal of toons. They are roomy, inexpensive, versatile, and low maintenance. I just could never have predicted their popularity.

They are a great second or third boat if you live on a lake to take out and anchor and swim and hang out. The fact that so many of them are clogging our lake by idling around and that they are more plentiful than "real" boats is pissing me off though.

I wonder how well it would "pack air" with a Seven Marine 557?

LOL

I've always wondered why they don't design pontoons to pack air, have stepped 'toons, and maybe even little pads on the pontoons. lol
