If you read the article he stated that he turned back.

"We just managed to miss it, but the boat on the left ploughed straight into it. Bits of wood were flying everywhere half of the boat disappeared and the rest was completely crumpled. People were thrown into the water and we turned around to help while about 60 other boats charged towards us at full speed."

With all his racing experience he knew better than to just pull back on the throttles like many a rookie would have done, you can imagine the potential results if all the leading boats stopped in front of the ones trying to catch up.

I thought he did the right thing.

Thank you. Count the time from the impact to the time they turned the Vidio off an went back to help. As the story was told. Look how long it took the CC to stop. Just my 2 cents
