Default Gmc parking brake

2005 gmc 2500hd parking brake , the mechanism that spreads the shoes won't retract all the way ,release lever works . I did notice some rust and wd40 'd the mechanism and got it loose which helped but won't retract that last 1/4 inch to put the rotor back on .is it cable being to tight ? Possibly from a preveious owner ? Also noticed a shat load of grease when I took the passenger side rotor off ,where's this coming from the axle ? Driver side was dry and rusty.

I post this here cause most of us have these trucks and have shops . Thanks

9 times out of 10 the rear cables go bad. Disconnect the cable and see if you can put the rotor on. Sounds like you are starting to have a bad axle seal on the other side. Get the seals from the dealer and do both sides.
