Best big sit down vee

They are based off of the same mold with the Glad being cut down, lighter, maybe even stiffer and stronger. Since there is no cabin the glad should have additional bulkheads.
I am no expert but from what I have expierenced running ours on Lake Michigan, and the numours experts and owners of Gladiators I chatted with before and after purchasing mine, they are a great rough water boat that can handle faster speeds through the rough then others.
I have been in 38 top Guns and 41 Saber "Apache's" (both great boats) and I would not be worried to run along side of or pass them in almost any conditions!

There are several 'real' 42'+ sit downs out there. Of those I would personally look at the larger models within the GTX and SV line from OL and the 45 Maximus from Cig. The OL's will be faster, but the Cig will likely offer a more comfortable ride due to it's less rigid construction and increased weight.
I don't know exactly where you're going to be boating, but as an owner of a 37 Outerlimits and 46 Cig (same bottom as the Maximus), I will tell you they both have their pros and cons. On the open water the longer Cig is without a doubt a smoother ride, it just eats up the rough water and is not at all punishing in any way. It's also a very fast hull for it's size and weight. If you don't plan on towing much and don't think docking space will be an issue in your area, I would highly suggest going as long as you can.
With that said, if you plan on doing a lot of towing or will be spending much time around crowded docks, I would suggest you stick to 42' or less. Even with a 5th wheel trailer under the Cig, I have to plan every turn and always think ahead when towing. Open areas aren't an issue, but in cramped areas it can be a real PITA. Same holds true at the docks and on the water. The big open docks and slips aren't at all an issue, but in our area many stops are not setup with a 45'+ go fast in mind. These boats typically have big power, staggered (read close) drives, props spinning in, no bow thruster, etc... add in some current and/or wind and these cramped areas become a major issue very, very quickly.
IMHO, if you are even remotely concerned about towing off the beaten path or have limited dock space in the places you travel, I would suggest sticking with a 42' or less. If being cramped isn't a concern, a 45' - 52' on the open water is a night and day difference compared to the popular 36' - 39' boats that are so common.
Hopefully that helped a little.

Donzi 38 ZrComp - 525-700hp: With 700hp the boat will run 115 all day and you will not find a better balanced or handling V bottom boat. True 38' running surface.
Outerlimits 42 GTX - 1000hp & #6: Gives you 120mph with the heavy duty #6 hardware and the softer ride of a non epoxy boat. True 42' Running surface
Outerlimits SV Series - fastest sit downs made, great boats but the epoxy makes them very rigid and you feel it in the ride. This is just my opinion
Cigarette Gladiator - Great boat, rock solid to 100mph, perfect 525 boat. Almost 37' running surface.
Cigarette Maximus - huge sit down at 45', need lots of power, wave crusher. True 45' running surface
Fountain Poker Run - Great running boat but I am unfamiliar with their ride and handling. Roughly 38' running surface.

Yeah but can it get to Bermuda as fast as the Skater 399 diesel boat?

Can that diesel boat push itself to 180mph?
Apple to orange "speed" comparison.
