Bracket drag racing is more interesting than bracket boat racing and the only reason anyone shows up to watch bracket drag racing is because it's easy to gamble on. We understand that you compete in bracket racing and find it very exciting. That doesn't mean as spectators that we have to also.

Around Long Island run; definitely something on our todo list. Long distance offshore boat racing and a live spectator event are mutually exclusive, speed restrictions on certain classes for many reasons would be good sense. For the record as a spectator, bracket boat racing is as thrilling to watch as open throttle.

You can't be watching the right ones then.
Also, in the ocean, we arent limited by gps, we're limited by the water conditions. I dont think weve ever come close to our number in a rough water race. We're just racing.
What makes a good spec class? Similar hulls, same power, etc...rules. Rules that make each boat run as close to the same speed as possible. Sounds a lot like bracket racing.
But whatever works for ya. At least you're at all the races.

Like the guy who posted earlier said. You're just racing your gps. Not each other. It might look like you're racing each other to a random person who doesn't know what's going on. But as long as I know that's what's occurring, it just won't be the same for me. Sorry.

Johnny , speak your mind! You'll never see this dude. He lives out west. Tell him our average speed in AC was 70ish. My gps recorded a high of 81 on the most tame straight. When we ran sbi we was in the 95mph bracket which for the most part in a ocean race was not something you saw from a boat between 32-38 feet long. We all run as hard as we can take and still make it back to the dock. The drives are the big equalizer. They don't last.

Had a great day at OFF today. Decided to get there early this morning and see the pits before the crowds arrived. But of course, there was T2X and his beautiful Switzer Craft and he already had his props on for the days run. He also brought a Molinari with a huge single Evinrude.

All in all there were three surviving Switzer Craft in attendance andmthey put on quite a show. It would be nice to see how far into the triple numbers they could get....... with that old design that worked and the new technology we have in engines today.

Of course that got our tableside conversation really going. Odell Lewis, Brownie, Sammy James, John Bakos, Dick Clark, Steve Sirois and me and my son. Sammy starts a story about driving an SK type boat with a big block at the start of the Gold Coast Marathon back in the 60's. That race ran inside on the intracoastal from Miami to West Palm Beach and back. So Sammy got off to a good start and was way in front....so far in front, he was starting to rehearse his acceptance speech. He was also trying to decide which was his best side for the photographers at the awards ceremony.

BUT.....in the middle of his daydream, he starts to hear this real loud howling, almost like a screaming. Well he didn't have to wait long .....as Odell and Bakos had finally got the two Switzer Craft boats they were racing that day on plane. They were loaded with fuel and it took a while as the props were 2 blade speed props, not much for torque.

They put Sammy right in the middle of their sandwich as they roared by on either side of him at over 100 with those special Merc outboards screaming at 9,000 RPM. Sammy said he wiped the rooster tail spray off his googles and spent the rest of the race trying to figure out how he could get a ride in one of those screamers.
