The course starts off Port Washington and covers the Long Island Sound heading east.

Around the end of Long Island heading south.

Now heading east after rounding Montauk.

Straight shot along the beach heading west toward the city.

Up the East river and under the bridges back toward Port Washington.

Dry and wet pits in past races have been at Guy Lamotta's marina in Port Washington. Guy was a former racer and good friend of Don Aronow. The pace boat has been Guy's 53 foot Magnum.
Do you go through the Gut or around Plum Island? Definitely some interesting stretches of water on that course. LIS can be your friend, or your enemy. Plum Gut can be interesting as well or same for The Race if the other way is taken. The rip at Montauk point can be a challenge too. Great course, best boating waters in the US, and a real challenge.

I know we have one from previous years and will see about getting it up.

In response to the lack of publicity......the sponsor we are talking with is very interested as this will give their product a lot of exposure in the New York metro area. That means lots of eyes. So we are working out a situation where part of the funds they put up will not go to us but will have to be used for the promotion of the race.

We are exploring with them the purchase of TV time. The race could be recorded and then played later on a venue that would show it to many more eyes.

We are trying to develop a series of races over the next 5 years that will bring their product into many major metro areas, like New York, New England, Miami, Mid Atlantic and the Great Lakes. But first they have to be sold that racers will come and put on a good show. So keep your posts coming if you are interested.

Thanks Steve

We also have a 40 foot MTI cat that is interested.

Records from the past

The existing race record is 3 hours and 5 minutes. Joe Sgro and Joe Cibellis in a 43 Vee Outerlimits

Run alone record is 2 hours and 11 minutes. Stu Hayim and Johnny Tomlinson.

I have the course image, but I can't post so I need an email address that I can send it to and you can post it.

Also past race info is on www.nationalpowerboat.com/
aroundlongisland.

Heading off to Lauderdale boat show tom'w so keep the interested parties posting and I will check back in a day or so.

With 10 months to go there is plenty of time to pick up a,bare hull and deck and build something reliable. I know where there is a bare hull and deck Top Gun in New England....don't know if it for sale, but that would make an interesting build.

Regarding the navigation around the north fork....... plum gut or island......in the original Around Long Island marathon you could choose either course......Just don't hit any shoals....
