Mercury Racing Class 1 850 hp Quad Cam stern drive

Mercury Racing really does need at least one engine between the 700 and 1,100. Why they have a 520, 540, and 565 is beyond me? Seems like a huge waste.

I couldn't agree more. They should have just offered the 565 with your choice of headers or manifolds, then a N/A quad cam at 800, then the 1100, 1350, 1650

Couldn't agree more as well, 850 hp would be perfect for us in the 30'ish single application of mid to upper 30' twins. I also agree there is no need for several 500ish hp motors. I never understood why manufacturers don't seek customer feedback before R&D and production.

We put them in our Abu Dhabi Race boat.
Yes, just like 1100s....
They run on 89 octane and are very calm and smooth... Very linear delivery.

Why? The #6 proved itself with the 850SCi/ 1075 SCi/ 1200 SCi and still with the 1100. 850 QC4v with the NXT6 would be perfect and with the products already out there, no R&D costs. Seems like a no brainer with all the custom engine builders building engines to fill this gap so you would think Mercury Racing of all people would be doing it to continue their dominance.
