Need the collected wisdom of OSO
We're spring cleaning (we're trying to be optimistic it was -15 at my house early this morning) at the shop and behind a bunch of boxes we just found an old microfiche machine.
Are these things good for anything ? I can just imagine giving it away or throwing it in the dumpster and someone finding out and telling me I shouldn't have done that..

put in the swap and see if anyone needs one. We use to use one for paint mixing but its all online now. Most anything you would need one for is downloadable but maybe they have a different purpose like visually inspecting something small.

Classic car and classic bike guys still use them occasionally for N.O.S. parts lookup. Part numbers get superseded, the number on the box doesn't match the computer, and a set of new old stock emblems for an old Panhead or a Corvette get tossed in the scrap heap by some pimply faced kid in the parts department.
I'm guessing some smaller libraries and newspapers have some old stuff on fiche that hasn't been uploaded, but besides that, it's a just a cumbersome magnifying glass with a lightbulb.
