On the start of a poker run engine was cold wouldn't allow for O2 correction and it ate a piston that wont happen again. Good thing dad was out there to give us a cooler of beer for the idle home.

New 572's we worked 42hrs straight to finish up for Shootout weekend at Ozarks. Made it 4 miles before valve stuck and destroyed motor. Builder eating cost that AFR wouldn't cover even though they screwed up. needless to say I didn't boat at all last season.

Better question would be "how many times have your engines blown?"

Can't believe how unreliable high performance boat motors are. I understand it's harsh environments under load and high RPM but you would just think that it this day and age stuff would be more reliable.

I've come to learn on this site that reliability comes from experience or big dollars. Or.. low power.
Unfortunately, you can't gain experience without a lot of dollars and time.

Brand new 502/502.......30ish MPH......The engine builder, Eagle Engine Sale did not know enough to change the 11 PSI oil relief valves to 30 PSI or block them off, from a GM crate engine before they marinized it.....
