Unlimited Class forms up strong for this year.

If even three Unlimited boats show up at the same three regular season races it would be precedent-setting. If four show up it would more than double last year's regular season Unlimited class boat count per race.
I don't bring this up to bring anyone down, but this is, in the words of former throttleman Jerry Gilbreath, "the silly season." Translation? The time when plans are made and announced. And that's not a bad thing—the announcements drive enthusiasm. Those plans needs to be reported, for sure. But blown engines and drives, last-minute family commitments or just the sudden realization that the costs to run Unlimited class are exorbitant have a way of changing those plans.
Two causes for optimism: First, the potential for actual Unlimited class is better than it's been in a long time. Second, the economy is better than it's been in a long time. Reason No. 2 tends to be ... huge.

I would like to see how that Mystic with the oversized jet engines can crush the competition, or not! Qatar vs Miss Geico. That is the battle I want to see. We need rivalries like that. I'm hoping to attend the races on the St. Clair River and Tawas Bay. Do the big boys show up for those races?
