Salt water will eat thru any headers regardless of design. My guess is your leak had nothing to do with weld issues.

yes not a welding issue, pinholes and cracking on the tubes.

You are correct the 500's were better than the 525's but 1100 hours and they are original seems like a looooonng time.......

True story!!! Honestly I'm impressed they are running With that many hours!!! Impressive!!! But you can probably poke a hole thru those headers assuming original with a q-tip.
