The hull number is WELP1136G586 380. According to Wikipedia, Don Johnson was a powerboat enthusiast, who let the Michael Man (director of the series) use his own boat for the series, a 38KV. After the success in the series, Wellcraft gave Don Johnson a new identical boat. After the series was over, Wellcraft made 100 boat in "Miami Vice -Edition". But that have to be later than 87/88 when the series was over. If our hull number ends with 86 (I guess that is the build or model year?) I guess it is possible that it can be one of the two?!
If you notice on this boat the bottom of the stripe ends amidship which is characteristic of the tv show boats (it is one) while the other pik the stripe goes all the way to the transom which is characteristic of the production vice boats

Wikipedia isn't even close on their facts lol
The KV (KAAMA Vice) came to be, because of Vice. Bill Erickson told me that when Vice gave the nod to Wellcraft, line drawings of the Scarab were sent to the graphic artist for Vice in California. When they were returned, the paint scheme was colored in with colored pencil. Their first reaction was....how the f__k are we going to do this. Keep in mind, up until then most boats were straight primary colors.
I would give anything to have those line drawings.
There were only 103 KVs built. Less then half of those had Vice related paint.
I just spoke with Todd Cimino today. He worked on 104 episodes as a marine coordinator. He confirmed something that I've been chasing for awhile. There was a third star boat during season 2 and two boats were drilled for camera mount, but it didn't see any screen time.
When Bruce bought Star 2, he said there were three boats to choose from at Abbott and Gilmore.
I then spoke with someone who lived by the marina and they told me about the three there and Don would come in with his loaner to make four. Recently this pic from season 2 surfaced. It never made the show and the hatch handle never appeared in season 2.
I'll elaborate on how the boat ties in later, but I need to see the pics you have and any early ones if possible.
