I hate bravo's, they are great on smaller stuff but the drive and gimble are not great on big stuff. one of the main reasons they came to be on big boats is the lack of a transmission. in the early days of bravo's the builders all wanted Mercury to beef them up so they could use them on big boats, not because of cost but because they could move the rear seat back and make the cockpit bigger. remember that back when it became the thing to do the TRS was the go to drive for big boats with lower power. marketing forces created the big cockpit design and eventually the TRS was eliminated from the lineup. now the only choice is bravo or six.

a friend had a triple 525 ol with bravo drives.he kept two spares and constantly broke drives.if you have a bigger preformance boat with bravo drives that don,t brake it must be parked.

It's all about money and this sport/hobby is far too expensive already.
Why do we have things like gold plating, cubic zirconium, Hyundai, economy class, timber veneer, domestic champagne etc, etc.
Nearly all customers are price driven to some degree and manufacturers are not going to out price their product by using the best of the best all the time. Companies like Mercury will stand by their product within the terms of the warranty. Read the warranty and if it doesn't cover the type of usage you require you may have to step up in price to the premium gear.
Im sure all boat manufacturers using Mercury can access the Mercury Racing line as well but it would be a bold move to announce better drives standard on the entry level boats, oh and sorry, um, err, aah, but the price has just gone up by $xxx.
My two cents worth.

Yes and all are priced north of 200k-250k, where as some top guns with 525's and xr's are sub 150k. You get what you pay for...unfortunately not everyone can afford 6's and 1350's.

Because Volvo's marketing approach sucks, it always has. They are perceived as slow and boring and embrace it. Look at their car designs, safe safe safe
