Actually, I think that he has one of those "auto correcting" brains that hears the word "can't" but hears "it is my turn to figure it out". I love it when people have the ingenuity to overcome all obstacles. This thread is one of the best anywhere!

Gale is just so dang A.D.D. he often builds something badd-azz, then sets it aside to start on something more interesting, without ever turning loose of the last great design. But if you ask nice, he might toss ya a bone or two..
1200hp diesels for marine are not uncommon, just weigh like 4k lbs. Why turbins are such a good bang for the buck. 1700hp in like 400lbs. I believe a small CI diesel version is possible, just needs some R&D funding. Right now you can buy a 700hp marine C with good warranty. Above that it's all try and see.

Tyson that's so sad to hear after all that work what speed did you see? from the video it looked like mid 70s
I really don't understand why you couldn't get 100+ I rode out in this 46 Skater with twin 750hp single turbo Seateks and it ran 100 all day with Arnesons, drives tracked straight and boat accelerated like a scalded cat.
I wonder if its torque you are short of as the Seateks make a lot more than the Cummins and with the old mechanical injection you get the same HP and torque no mater what, no computer to back off fuel and injection timing when parameters change.
I am back in the US in a few weeks if you need to discuss.
Cheers

Make a 15-18 liter I6 like the c18 which gets a marine rating as high as 1000hp already. Get the 4K lb weight down to 2000-2400. You have the knowledge and shop to pull off that project. Shooting for uncharted reliability and hp/l Diesel engines will lead to heartbreak. you're quite the productive guy but just don't see you replicating the testing design and knowledge that we put into Diesel engines.
One suggestion, we shelved a high speed marine diesel that had a sequential turbo system that greatly improved time to plane off. I think it was making around 70hp/l fwiw
